Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM)
CATSINaM is the peak advocacy body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses and midwives in Australia. Its focuses are to:
- lead the nursing and midwifery workforce to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing;
- work to eliminate systemic organisational and individual racism; and
- commit to collective leadership and reciprocal relationships.
CATSINaM advocates for cultural safety and the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous nurses, midwives and students including through its:
– Strategic Plan 2018-2023, which includes the following priorities:
- Develop and support recruitment and retention strategies
- Inform national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education policy
- Provide a cultural hub for resilience and leadership development
- Inform best practice in culturally safe learning and service delivery environments
